It can be challenging to stay motivated to exercise while you’re traveling. If your day is already full of sightseeing and fun activities, the last thing you want to do is add fitness to the list. But exercise while traveling can help you sleep better, have a better mood, and make it easier to resume normal life when you get back.
Fortunately, you don’t have to completely change your routine to add exercise while traveling. Follow these 10 tips to stay fit while traveling:
Pack Your Fitness Gear
It’s easy to forget to exercise if you don’t pack any exercise gear. After all, how can you be expected to get active if you don’t pack any exercise shoes or clothes? Maybe you even don’t pack fitness gear on purpose, thinking somehow you’ll make something work this time.
I suggest planning ahead by packing your favorite Reebok Shoes, Reebok CrossFit apparel, favorite yoga clothes and maybe even your ete sustainable swimsuit. A jump rope can be an easy fitness tool to pack, and you can probably pack some lightweight resistance bands too. You don’t need to pack weights or anything too heavy. You just need the basics! If possible, I prefer to pack my own yoga mat. Don't forget your Hydros Bottle LLC reusable water bottle.

Use Hotel Facilities

Most hotels have gyms. Crazy, right? But it’s true. Plenty of people use them, and some hotels have really nice gyms. Even if your hotel doesn’t have a gym, chances are there are nearby fitness facilities you can use.
While you’re booking your travel arrangements, book hotels that have gyms. If you’re used to exercising in the morning, keep your schedule and head to the hotel gym in the morning. If the gym is easily accessible, you’re much more likely to actually go.
Walk Everywhere
Instead of taking Uber, rental cars, or taxis, opt to walk places instead. Of course, you can’t walk everywhere, but you can at least walk to local places. Luckily, most sightseeing vacations give you plenty of opportunities to walk. Reebok's Stridium Walking Shoe now $24.99 with code STRIDE24
Another advantage to walking is that you get to experience the area like a true local. You’ll see things and places you otherwise might’ve missed. If you’re doing it right, it won’t feel like exercise and feel like part of your vacation.
Use Your Body Weight
You actually carry one of the best exercise tools around with you all day every day. Your own body weight is really helpful for fitness while traveling, especially if you can’t make it to the gym to grab extra weights.
Exercises like pushups, jumping jacks, planks, squats, crunches, mountain climbers, and burpees all can be done with your body weight. You don’t even have to leave your hotel room! If you need some inspiration for exercise while traveling, you can try a HIIT workout. HIIT workouts stands for high-intensity interval training, which includes intense exercise followed by short recovery periods.
Online Classes
Some people need accountability from others. That’s why fitness classes are so successful. When you’re around people with the same goals, it’s much easier to stay motivated. If you’re able to, find online classes that you can follow while you’re traveling.
FitOn, Apple's Fitness Plus, and Beachbody on Demand are great ways to access live or on demand fitness classes on your schedule. All you have to do is search for what kind of exercise you want, and you’ll find thousands of videos readily available to help you exercise.
Go Swimming
One of the best physical activities is swimming. It works out because swimming is easy on joints, works muscles you didn’t know you had, and it’s really fun during hot summer months.
Not everywhere you go will have a pool readily available. But plenty of hotels have pools, and it’s a great opportunity to take advantage! If you’re going to the beach, swimming in the ocean is also a great workout.
Check Out Local Trails
What better way to get familiar with your local area than to find a new hike? There’s beautiful hiking across the world, and you’d hate to miss a beautiful trail just because you didn’t think to look.
If you do decide to go hiking, make sure to be careful. Let someone know where you are, and pack plenty of water and snacks. Check out Andalucia Hiking's suggestions for what to pack for a day hike. Hiking is a fun activity, but people also get lost on unfamiliar trails. If you’re unsure, follow an easy path or check the TrailLink app to see how others have rated the trails.
Take the Stairs
This is a pretty easy way to stay on top of fitness while traveling. The only thing you have to do for this tip is opt for stairs instead of elevators or escalators. This can make a difference if you’re spending a lot of time inside while traveling, or if you have long layovers at an airport. Opt to take the stairs or the long way whenever you can.
It may seem silly, but taking stairs and climbing over other options is really good for you. You use the muscles in your legs, abs, and back. It also requires flexibility, and you even burn more calories taking the stairs than you do jogging.
Don’t Go Overboard
It’s obviously important to pay extra attention to fitness while traveling. But I don’t want to give you the impression that if you aren’t constantly moving, you’re doing something wrong. Fitness, like all things, is about proper balance. It’s important to not go overboard, especially while you’re traveling. The last thing you want is to exhaust yourself, whether you’re traveling for business or pleasure.
Push yourself as far as you can go, then stop. If you’re exhausted from jet lag, let yourself rest. Travel can be very disruptive, so remember to be kind to yourself.
Try the Local Activities

Are you in the Caribbean? Go scuba diving! Are you in Spain? Try dancing! Will you be by a lake? You can usually find rental equipment for kayaking or other water sports.
Don’t be so narrow-minded as to think exercise only takes place in a gym. Physical activity can look like anything as long as your body is moving. Remember to have some fun exercise while traveling!
